Secondary Schools

Lucan District Credit Union has started to develop a secondary schools programme. We have prepared a presentation for senior cycle students at the local secondary schools. The presentation includes:

• A brief history of the credit union movement
• The traditional business model v the credit union model
• Key differences between the credit union and banks
• Building and protecting your credit rating
• Exercise - What the loan officer sees - a behind the scenes look at loan assessment. The students are appointed temporary loan officers of the credit union and must assess two mock loan applications and decide whether we should grant the loan or not. Discussion as to the reasons why.

• Q&A

Several presentations have been made to senior cycle students of Lucan Community College to date.
